84. Settling Affairs - "Do-Gooders" - Sorting Things Out

Seeker wasn’t often alone with Artemis anymore, but the longtime couple made sure they had the odd moment to themselves. On this occasion, it was in the ATS storeroom, where they were sorting through provisions. As Artemis moved a big tin of raisins to its rightful shelf, Seeker grabbed her from behind.

"Hey, keep your mind on the job!" Despite these words, Artemis turned around; the two Survivalists kissed and embraced.

"Nice to have a little peace and quiet," said Seeker.

"Tell me about it. Ever since we joined these guys, it’s been one thing after another. Wouldn’t have it any other way, though."

As they separated, Seeker shook her head. "I thought I had some idea of what governments are capable of, but this is something else. The people of SL are the victims in all this, but, to the District, we’re totally expendable."

"Let’s just concentrate on getting out as many as we can," replied Artemis, tapping the string of her recurve bow, which was resting against the storeroom wall. "And try not to worry, Val. If you’re with me, you’re safe."

Seeker looked up at her tall girlfriend and grinned. "That’s sweet, Kyanna, but, actually, it’s the other way around. If you’re with me, you’re safe."
