June 2023 Recap - Playtesting, Fulfillment, and Origins!

Hello Dead Alive Games Community!

Time just keeps on flying by! We just got back form 4-days at Origins Game Fair in Columbus, OH, and Bernie completed his big Midwest trip where he visited game stores in Fargo, Sioux Falls, Omaha, Des Moines, Ames, and Minneapolis. Maybe you'll see some of our games in those store in the near future! :) There'll be some photos at the end of the newsletter for you to check out!

This Month's Topics:

  • Omicron Protocol

  • Lunar Rush

  • Cyber Pet Quest

  • Origins Game Fair

Omicron Protocol Updates

Fulfillment Update

We've confirmed that the Omicron Protocol Critical Condition Expansion boxes have arrived in China and are in process of getting fulfilled to EU/UK/RoW in the next few weeks. There are a few forms we still have to fill out, but it's getting to you hopefully in July!

Gamescape Casual Tournament

On Sunday 6/4, we had a super fun tournament at Gamescape SF, where 6 local players came to play, including the "infamous" William from the Hungry Gamer! We played the new "Afternoon Tea" mode with 3 characters per side and did 3 rounds to determine the final winner. In the end, a big congratulations to Jason Mandelbaum for finishing 1st, followed by Nate Hirsch in 2nd, and The Hungry Gamer in 3rd!  Congrats everyone!

Congrats to Jason for winning! (rightmost)

We'll continue to host Casual Play/Learn-to-Play events at Gamescape once a month on Monday nights (next one is 7/10), and if anyone is interested in hosting these at your store, just reach out to us at info@deadalivegames.com and we'll definitely help out in any way we can!

Lunar Rush Updates

Pledge Manager

We just closed the Lunar Rush pledge manager this week (yay!). You can still update your addresses for a week or two, but you won't be able to change your order anymore. We're currently on track to get the production sample sometime next week after July 5th, and once approved, they'll start packing all the boxes onto pallets so we can load them onto ships sometime around mid-July.  As we mentioned in other updates, we'll have some advanced copies for backers going to GenCon to pick up, while the rest of the games are shipped all around the world and will be fulfilled sometime in August/September. We'll be sharing more info on social media as updates come in, and maybe a quick Kickstarter update or two. So keep your eyes open for those!

Cyber Pet Quest

Another month, another dozens of playtests online, at The Source in Minneapolis, at Origins, and at Gamescape San Francisco! The game continues to be simplified with mechanics toned down and stripped away, as the main feedback is that the story and theme is great, but it might be a little too complex. The last few playtests we were able to get a 4-player game session down to 40 min or so, so that's good progress for us. We have a few more ideas to simplify mechanics, so that this can be a super fast game that you can play with all sorts of board gamers and with the family. We're also slowly adding art, design, and prototype components so that we can finally put together review copies to send out to content creators ahead of the Kickstarter we're planning this Fall.

We also completed a 2nd set of art for the pets, thanks to artist Alex Pei. Here they are!

If you're interested in a playtest, let us know and we can sign you up for a virtual playtest on Tabletop Simulator, or at a local place in Minneapolis or San Francisco, or at GenCon!

Origins

This year we didn't have a booth at Origins, which allowed us to playtest Cyber Pet Quest and do more demos of Lunar Rush and Omicron Protocol. It also afforded us more time to meet up with friends we've made over the past year of doing conventions. For the Origins Awards, unfortunately Omicron Protocol didn't win any, but we're still super honored to be mentioned in the same breath with Osprey Games and Modiphius!  We'll leave you with some photos here to see some of the highlights of the con for us!

Upcoming Events

July is going to be pretty quiet, with some local 1-day cons or events here and there. We'll be gearing up for an exciting GenCon, where we'll debut Lunar Rush and show Cyber Pet Quest to media and the general public. We'll send out more info in the July newsletter, but if you're at GenCon, come visit us at booth 2932!

See you next month!
