Painting Weekend!

In the midst of getting our Kickstarter set up for May 20, I completely abandoned Bernie and spent all weekend in a painting class. It was a much needed mini vacation for me. It was intense and exhausting but I started the week with my mind refreshed. The class was taught by one of my favorite painters, Sergio Calvo Rubio. If you don’t know the name and you’re a fan of painting miniatures you should check out his amazing works, I’m sure you will be inspired.

If you get really inspired he also has a patreon where he teaches his techniques. There is a ton of content already, including videos and hundreds of pages of PDFs.

The class was really wonderful, there was a nice balance of theory and practical application of technique. Sergio has an easy manner and a great sense of humor. The class was full of great people and everyone was laughing for most of the weekend.

The techniques I learned really increase the speed of painting models to a very good level. I’m very happy with the models I painted so far for Omicron Protocol but I put a lot of pressure on myself and it took me a long time to get through them, meanwhile a lot of other tasks that needed doing for our game (Tabletop Simulator for instance) were falling behind. Now I feel confident that I can incorporate some techniques I learned to speed up the painting of our next set of models and leave room to accomplish all the other things I need to for Dead Alive Games and Omicron Protocol.

I’m super excited to apply my new knowledge! Let’s get Omicron Protocol funded so I can paint some more box art!

What do you think about my WIP? Where could I improve?
